Dr. A. H. (Buddy) Giesecke (1932-2011) joined the Southwestern Medical School faculty in 1963, after a residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital and a fellowship in anesthesiology research at Southwestern Medical School. He became a full professor in 1968. In 1981, he succeeded Dr. M.T. (Pepper) Jenkins as Chair of Anesthesiology and Chief of Anesthesiology at Parkland. He served in that role until his retirement in 2005, when he became Professor Emeritus. In 2001, Dr. Giesecke's book 'Anesthesiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas: The First Fifty Years' was published by the UT Southwestern Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management.
