Drs. A. John Rush and Madhukar Trivedi designed and led the Sequenced Treatment Alternative to Relieve Depression (STAR*D) study, the largest ever conducted on treatments for depression. The study is considered a benchmark in the field of depression research, offering step-by-step guidelines for measuring and treating the symptoms of major depressive disorders. Results have been published in more than 60 peer-reviewed articles. The study aimed to achieve remission of depression: getting the participants completely well and symptom-free.
