Dr. Charles Pak is a Professor of Internal Medicine and holds the Rabiner Distinguished Academic Chair for Mineral Metabolism Biotechnology Research. He was recruited to UT Southwestern in 1972 in part to establish the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC). The GCRC was a mini-hospital with 11 in-patient and two out-patient beds on the seventh floor of Parkland Memorial Hospital. Specifically designed for human research, the GCRC had patient beds but also seminar areas, food preparation areas, specimen-collecting facilities, and a small central laboratory.
