Dr. Dennis K. Stone (1951-2017) earned his medical degree from UT Southwestern in 1977, and he joined the faculty in the Nephrology Division of Internal Medicine in 1984. He served as Vice President of Technology Development from 1998-2011, became the first Associate Dean for Medical Student Research, and was a Professor of Internal Medicine, Physiology, and Biochemistry during his years at UT Southwestern (1984-2011). In 1984, Dr. Stone received the Searle Scholars Award that supported his research study of proton ATPase, which acts as a pump to rid kidney cells of acid, a function critical for normal cell metabolism.
