The Simmons building, completed in 1993, was the first research tower constructed on UT Southwestern's North Campus. The eleven-story building houses the Excellence in Education Foundation Auditorium, and a variety of research and administrative offices. The curved concrete canopy over the entrance is a distinctive architectural feature. To the right of the entry canopy is the Nancy B. and Jake L. Hamon Building, completed in 1995. The Simmons building is named in honor of the late Reuben Leon and Fairess Clark Simmons, parents of Harold Simmons.
